Biblio-Con is a free convention being hosted by Gateshead Central Library Teen Book Club on Saturday 4th February 2017. We aim to draw in as many young readers as possible across the say to encourage a love of reading and use of Gateshead Libraries. Although our target audience is 11-24 we think there'll be something for everyone who attends. We'll be celebrating all things book throughout the day, with opportunities to meet high profile authors, ask questions and discuss great literature. Local vendors and book shops will be selling original art and books at discounted prices, and there will be workshops where you can try your hand at bookish crafts. We will also be announcing the winner of the first Gateshead Book Award!
"I decided to run this event because there was simply a lack of them around. I've been passionate about books all my life and I know that there's so many more people in the area who would want to celebrate this passion with me but there's little opportunity to do it, which is why I decided to start Biblio-Con. I believe I will be able to organise a successful event for young people as I myself am 17 and I've been involved in events with Gateshead Libraries since I was 11. I can easily talk to people my age through college to get their opinions on what should be included in the event and pull together a day that will bring something new and exciting to the area." ~Amy McKee, longest-standing book club member
